La Iguana Golf Course: Green Fees, Tee Times & Pricing Guide (2026)

La Iguana Golf Course at Los Sueños Resort operates a tiered pricing structure built on three variables: where you’re staying (Marriott resort guest vs. non-resort guest), when you’re playing (high season vs. green season, morning vs. twilight), and where you’re from (Costa Rica residents get a separate local rate). This page covers all of it: 2026 green fees, rental and lesson costs, enrollment programs, stay-and-play packages, and how to book at the best rate.

What You’ll Pay to Play La Iguana in 2026

La Iguana posts its official rate sheet at golflaiguana.com/rates-specials and states that its best available rates are published only in the La Iguana Golf Course app. The figures below are the published rack rates plus what recent guests have reported paying.

Two things to keep in mind. First, every figure above is before Costa Rica’s 13% IVA, which is added at checkout, so a $180 round is roughly $203 at the register. Second, the $115 to $150 figures come from guests who played in green season or on app promotions; you should not expect them on a Saturday morning in February.

That pricing puts La Iguana squarely in the middle of Costa Rica’s premium course range: more accessible than a Four Seasons golf package, considerably more than a budget-friendly track, and on par with the better Guanacaste resort courses.

High Season vs. Green Season

Costa Rica golf pricing splits along the dry/rainy season divide.

High season (December through April): Peak demand, best course conditions, rates at their highest. Morning tee times fill fast, especially on weekends. Book well in advance and expect to pay full rack rate.

Green season (May through November): Rates drop, the course is quieter, and the jungle is at its lushest. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from around 2 to 3 PM, so morning rounds are the smart play. Good value for golfers who don’t mind humidity and the occasional shower. This is when most of the sub-$150 reports come from.

Twilight Rates

Twilight pricing kicks in around noon to 1 PM and runs roughly $100, a 25 to 35 percent discount off the full morning rate. Exact cut-off times and rates vary by season; the course posts current specials on its website and in the app.

If you’re flexible on timing and don’t need to post a full round before lunch, twilight is worth looking at. Afternoon light on the Central Pacific is beautiful, the course cools off, and you’ll often have fairways largely to yourself. The catch is weather: in green season a noon start carries a genuine risk of a shortened round, which is part of why the rate is discounted. In dry season, when afternoon rain is rare, twilight is close to a free discount.

Marriott Guests vs. Non-Resort Guests

Where you’re staying changes what you pay and how you book.

Staying at the Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort: You get preferred green fees, typically around $165 for 18 holes with a GPS-equipped cart, and you can book directly through the hotel at check-in or in advance through the resort’s reservation system. The Marriott’s golf packages bundle green fees with your room (see Stay & Play below), so the effective per-round cost drops further if you’re playing daily.

Staying elsewhere in Los Sueños (private villa, condo, vacation rental): You book as a non-resort guest at the published rack rate, roughly $180. That said, private rentals inside Los Sueños are often steps from the clubhouse, so the non-resort rate is the only real difference: you’re still playing on a home course, and the app, twilight, and green-season discounts all apply to you.

Staying in Herradura, Jacó, or Playa Hermosa: Same as above. La Iguana is open to the public, and you don’t need any Los Sueños connection to play. Just book ahead in high season.

Non-resort enrollment: If you plan to play multiple rounds, the enrollment programs below can beat rack rate quickly. The program is listed on the La Iguana book tee times page, and current tiers are detailed in the next section.

Costa Rica Resident Rates

If you hold a valid Costa Rica cedula (resident ID), you qualify for local pricing, a significant discount off rack rates. The process has gone digital:

1. Download the La Iguana Golf Course app
2. Create or update your profile
3. Visit the golf shop to verify your resident ID in person
4. Receive a digital Tico Resident ID Card in the app
5. Show it at check-in for the resident rate

The app also claims to offer the best available rates for all players, not just residents. Worth downloading before you book regardless of where you’re from.

Membership and Enrollment Options

If you own in Los Sueños, spend long stretches on the Central Pacific, or simply plan to play a lot, La Iguana offers annual enrollment programs that undercut rack rate after a modest number of rounds. Current published tiers, all plus 13% tax:

What members get: Reduced green fees and cart fees, a 20 percent discount at resort restaurants and the pro shop, spa facility access, driving range privileges, locker usage and club storage, playing privileges for up to three guests per day at preferred rates, and access to the Marriott Golf Reciprocal Program at other Marriott-managed courses.

How to think about it: The All-Week $50 Green Fee tier is the one that makes sense for most frequent visitors. At $2,000 per year, you’re paying $50 per round instead of $180, so the break-even against public rack rate is about 15 rounds. Full enrollment ($4,975) is aimed at year-round residents and owners who play weekly and want the restaurant, spa, and reciprocal benefits on top. Club and Equipment Rental

Traveling without clubs is not a problem. La Iguana’s pro shop rents proper TaylorMade equipment that guests consistently describe as solid, and for a one-course trip most visitors skip hauling a travel bag. Current pro shop rental rates, all plus 13% IVA:

• TaylorMade club rental (includes six range balls): $75 USD
• Kids club rental (ages 6 to 12): $45 USD
• Golf shoe rental: $15 USD
• Range balls (one bucket): $10 USD
• Range balls and club rental bundle: $25 USD
• Club storage per day: $3 USD

A few practical notes:

• Rental shoe availability varies by size and day. If shoes matter to you, pack your own golf shoes or athletic shoes with good grip: the jungle sections of the course get slick after rain.
• Gloves, balls, and tees are available for purchase in the shop, but at resort prices. Bring a sleeve or two from home if you’re playing multiple rounds.
• If you’re playing three or more rounds, the $75 rental adds up ($225 plus tax) and starts to justify checking your own bag. Most airlines allow one checked golf bag on international flights; verify your carrier’s policy and weight limits.

Lessons and the Golf Academy

La Iguana has PGA-certified instructors and a full golf academy. Instruction is priced separately from green fees (all plus 13% IVA):

• One hour with a PGA golf professional: $150 USD
• Private lesson with a golf instructor: $75 USD
• Video swing analysis: $30 USD
• Group instruction (five or more): $50 USD per person

A one-hour session the day before your first round is a reasonable investment if you’re newer to the game or haven’t played in a while. La Iguana penalizes cold, uncertain swings, and it’s a lot more fun to enjoy the round than to fight the course from the first tee.

Stay & Play Golf Packages

La Iguana offers golf packages bundled with accommodations at the Los Sueños Marriott. The current stay-and-play package includes:

• Deluxe room (mountain view)
• Breakfast for two daily
• One round of golf per person per day (subject to availability; reservation required prior to arrival or at check-in)

Package code GPF for reservations. Minimum two-night stay. The third and fourth guests in a room pay an additional per-night charge, and the package doesn’t include their breakfast or golf.

The package rate per night often works out cheaper than booking room and golf separately, especially in green season. Booking a Tee Time: How It Works

Tee times run from 6:20 AM to 3:50 PM, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The pro shop opens at 6:00 AM.

In the app: The La Iguana Golf Course app (iOS and Android) is the fastest way to book and the only place the course says its best rates appear. Download it, create a profile, and book directly. Residents verify their ID through the same app.

Through your hotel: Marriott guests can book at check-in, through the concierge desk, or via the resort’s reservation system before arrival.

Booking Tips

Reserve early for morning weekend slots. Saturday and Sunday mornings in high season fill weeks out. If you’re set on a specific tee time, don’t wait. For weekdays in high season, two to three days ahead is usually enough.

Mid-week is easier. Tuesday through Thursday mornings are the sweet spot if you have flexibility: faster pace of play, fewer groups, and sometimes better conditions after a Monday maintenance window.

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes early. The driving range opens at 7:00 AM and is a useful warm-up before a course that punishes cold swings. Range balls are $10 per bucket (six are included with a club rental), so confirm at check-in whether your rate includes any.

Book for daylight only. Sunrise is around 5:30 AM and sunset around 5:30 to 6:00 PM year-round in Costa Rica, and a round here runs four and a half to five hours. A 1 PM tee time leaves enough time for 18 holes in most seasons. A 3 PM start is cutting it close, and in green season you’ll likely lose the back nine to rain anyway.

Request your caddie when you book. Caddies are optional and hired separately (see below). In peak season the experienced ones get spoken for, so ask for one at the time of reservation rather than at the counter.

What’s Included with Your Round

When you pay your green fee, here’s what you get:

• Golf cart: Included. GPS-equipped, shared one per two players. Cart paths run through the rainforest sections, though a few holes require a short carry to the tee.
• Driving range: Available before your round from 7:00 AM. Range balls are priced separately unless bundled with a club rental.
• Practice areas: Putting green and chipping area, included.
• Caddie: Optional and not included. Caddies run $30 to $40 plus tip, and a $20 to $30 tip is standard for good service. They know the greens and where balls disappear into the jungle, and most first-timers consider the money well spent.

What’s not included: club and shoe rentals, lessons, range balls (unless bundled), meals and drinks, and the 13% IVA. The clubhouse restaurant is a solid post-round option, and Marina Village is 5 minutes away for dinner with a view.

What a Round Actually Costs: Three Sample Budgets

Rack rate is only the starting point. Here’s what the full ticket looks like for three common scenarios, using 2026 published rates and adding the 13% IVA where it applies (caddie tips are cash and untaxed).

The budget round: non-resort guest, own clubs, twilight, no caddie. $100 green fee plus IVA comes to about $113. Add a $10 bucket of range balls and you’re at roughly $125 all in. This is the cheapest way to play La Iguana without an enrollment, and in dry season it’s a full 18 holes with no compromise beyond a warmer start.

The typical visitor: non-resort guest, morning tee time, rental clubs, caddie. $180 green fee plus $75 club rental is $255, or about $288 with IVA. Add a $35 caddie fee and a $25 tip and the round lands around $350. Marriott guests shave about $17 off that by paying $165 instead of $180.

The family outing: two adults and one junior, Marriott guests, one rental set, no caddie. Two adult rounds at $165 plus a $45 kids club rental and one $75 adult rental comes to $450, or about $509 with IVA. Split across three players that’s around $170 a head, and the junior gets a proper set of clubs rather than a cut-down adult club.

If any of those numbers make you wince, the two levers that move them most are the twilight rate (saves $80 before tax) and bringing your own clubs (saves $75 plus tax per round). Everything else is marginal.

What Other Courses Charge (Context)

To put La Iguana’s pricing in perspective, here are published rates at the courses it’s most often compared to:

• Four Seasons Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo (Guanacaste): $250 for hotel guests, $350 for non-guests
• Reserva Conchal (Guanacaste): $160 to $180 for 18 holes depending on season
• Hacienda Pinilla (Guanacaste): Similar premium tier, roughly $150 to $200 by season
• Cariari Country Club (San José): More accessible pricing, but a private club with a very different, non-resort experience
• La Iguana (Los Sueños): Around $180 for non-resort guests at rack rate, $165 for Marriott guests, with lower rates via the app, twilight pricing, green season, or enrollment

Costa Rica golf is generally more affordable than comparable resort courses in the US, Hawaii, or the Caribbean, but La Iguana prices at the premium end of the local market. Given that it’s the only 18-hole championship course on the Central Pacific and the closest alternatives are three-plus hours north, it earns it.

Planning a Golf Trip to Los Sueños

La Iguana plays best as part of a longer Los Sueños stay. The course sits inside the resort community, so guests in private villas and condos are within walking or golf cart distance of the clubhouse.

• Best time to play: December through April for ideal conditions and full pricing; May through November for lower rates and a quieter course, with early tee times to beat the rain.
• What to bring: Sunscreen, a hat, insect repellent, a rain jacket in green season, extra balls (the jungle keeps what it takes), and cash in small bills for caddie tips.
